Pastor Peter Stucky wins Menno Simons Preaching Prize 2022

Pacific islands in peril, local churches' leader stresses before COP26

The Pacific islands are in grave danger and at the frontline of global climate change, so that is why the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, known as COP26, in Glasgow is so important for islanders, says Rev. James Bhagwan. He is general secretary of the Pacific Conference of Churches, a Methodist minister based in Fiji, and visited Geneva on his way to COP26, in Scotland's biggest city, Glasgow, from 31 October to 12 November.

This was the question African representatives to the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee asked themselves. More than 30 representatives of churches and WCC staff members from Africa met as part of the WCC central committee meeting held online from 23 – 28 June 2021.

WCC mourns the passing of Rev. Pablo Sosa

“It was with great sadness that we received the news of the passing of Rev. Pablo Sosa, one of the grandfathers of global ecumenical spirituality,” said Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, general secretary of the WCC. The Argentinian Methodist pastor passed away on 11 January, in Buenos Aires, at the age of 85.
