ÖRK mahnt: „Schutz des Lebens muss an oberster Stelle stehen“

In einem Hirtenbrief an die Mitgliedskirchen und ökumenischen Partner des ÖRK ermahnten der ÖRK-Generalsekretär Pastor Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit und die ÖRK-Vorsitzende Dr Agnes Abuom die Menschen, dass jetzt an oberster Stelle stehen müsse „alles zu tun, um das Leben zu schützen“ und dass es an der Zeit sei, „die Herzen zu berühren, durch das, was wir sagen, was wir weitergeben, was wir tun - und was wir nicht tun - um das Leben zu schützen, das Gott so sehr liebt.“

WCC urges: “give highest priority to protect life”

In a pastoral letter to WCC member churches and ecumenical partners, WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit and WCC moderator Dr Agnes Abuom urged people to give highest priority to “doing whatever we can do to protect life” and “This is a time to touch each other’s hearts, by what we say, what we share, what we do – and what we do not do – to protect the life God loves so much.”

Der Wettbewerb ist Teil der Bemühungen und Initiativen, junge Menschen in die Planung und Durchführung der Vollversammlung stärker einzubeziehen; durch die Musik können sie ihre jungen Stimmen in die ökumenische Bewegung einbringen.

Young songwriters invited to shine for WCC 11th Assembly

As the World Council of Churches (WCC) 11th Assembly preparations progress, the Assembly Worship Planning Committee together with the WCC Youth Engagement programme are presenting a creative opportunity to young people between the ages of 18 and 35 who attend a WCC member church, inviting them to enter a song writing competition. This is part of efforts and initiatives involving and engaging young people in the planning and delivery of the assembly; they can be a part of the ecumenical movement with their young voices through music.

Geneva churches celebrate Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

On 22 January, local churches in Geneva celebrated together the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity with a service at the Ecumenical Centre.Marking the sixth day of the Week of Prayer, those gathered reflected on the this year’s theme, “They showed us unusual kindness,” remembering the importance of overcoming differences and division in order to share together in unity.

Ethiopians celebrate Meskel festival

Ethiopians have celebrated the annual festival of the Meskel (which means “cross” in Amharic), marking the finding of the “true cross” on which Jesus Christ was supposedly crucified. The festival is one of the major religious celebrations of the Orthodox Church in the Horn of Africa country. The main national feast - which occurs on 27 or 28 September - is held at Meskel Square in the capital Addis Abba.
