Vor dem Hintergrund des 70-jährigen Bestehens des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen und im Rahmen des Pilgerwegs der Gerechtigkeit und des Friedens und der 2030-Agenda für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung wird eine internationale Konsultation die 20 Jahre seit der Dekade der Kirchen in Solidarität mit den Frauen (1988-1998) des ÖRK in Erinnerung rufen. Die Konsultation wird sich mit den Errungenschaften und Herausforderungen beim Aufbau einer gerechten Gemeinschaft für Frauen und Männer und mit der Stärkung der ökumenischen Zusammenarbeit beim Erkennen der Zeichen unserer Zeit befassen, um die zukünftige Ausrichtung unserer Arbeit zu gestalten.

In the context of the 70th anniversary of the World Council of Churches, the Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace and the 2030 sustainable development agenda, an international consultation will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the WCC’s Decade of the Churches in Solidarity with Women (1988-1998). The consultation will reflect on the achievements and challenges in building a just community of women and men and to strengthen ecumenical collaboration in reading the signs of our times in order to map the future direction of our work.

Mit einem Gottesdienst am 23. August in der aus dem 15. Jahrhundert stammenden Nieuwe Kirk in Amsterdam, Niederlande werden die Führungskräfte des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen genau an dem Ort das 70-jährige Bestehen des ÖRK feiern, an dem die Organisation gegründet wurde. Ein „Spaziergang der Ruhe/Walk of Peace“ durch Amsterdam und ein Symposium mit dem Thema „Gastfreundschaft auf dem Pilgerweg zu Friede und Gerechtigkeit“ an der Vrije Universiteit finden ebenfalls am selben Tag statt.

During a 23 August service in the Netherlands in the Nieuwe Kerk, a 15th-century church in Amsterdam, World Council of Churches leaders will celebrate the WCC’s 70th anniversary at the very spot in which the organization was founded.  A “Walk of Peace” through Amsterdam, and a symposium under the theme “Hospitality on a pilgrim's way to peace and justice”, at the Vrije Universiteit, will also be held on the same day.

At its first Eco-School on Water, Food and Climate Justice, the WCC's Ecumenical Water Network (EWN) along with its Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance will bring together about 20 young people from the Africa region. Over a period of 10 days, in an ecumenical setting, participants will have the opportunity to study the local, regional, and international manifestations and causes of the water crisis and food security affected by climate change. They will examine the situation and challenges from a perspective of faith and ethics, and search together for possible ecumenical responses to these challenges.

The Pan-African Women’s Ecumenical Empowerment Network (PAWEEN) under the WCC programme on Ecumenical Theological Education is partnering with Bread for the World USA and Howard University in Washington D.C. for an international consultation on “Pan-African Women of Faith: Lifting our Voices and Votes to End Hunger and Poverty”

The WCC's Ecumenical Institute at Bossey will host a series of events to celebrate seventy years of ecumenical formation, including prayers, guided tours, an evening concert, as well as discussion on “Peace-Building and the Role of Religions”.

Latin America is one of the most unequal regions in the world in terms of income and living conditions. At the same time, the region has strong religious traditions and churches. The seminar will address topics linked to the engagement of Latin American churches in social justice issues, drawing on the experiences of the participants themselves.

Young people are very much affected by the violence and tensions along religious lines that we are witnessing today in the Middle East but also in Europe, Asia, North America. The seminar is an interfaith initiative jointly organized by the Egyptian Muslim Centre Al Azhar (mosque and university), and the WCC.

The multi-cultural and multi-faith realities Christians live in today are confronting them, in their witness and praxis, with common challenges along with on-going differences among various Christian confessions. In a world of post-modern values and concepts, the voice of the churches remains often unheard and is hardly understood. In these contexts, the faithful members of the congregations across all confessions are getting aged and their number decreases. Other faith communities living in such contexts go through a similar experience.

Um die Stimme der Kirchen in Bezug auf die Weltwirtschaft zu stärken, wird eine Gruppe von bis zu 15 gegenwärtigen und zukünftigen Führungskräften, die die Kirchen vertreten, die Gelegenheit haben, das ökumenische Seminar für Leitung, Wirtschaft und Management für eine Ökonomie des Lebens zu besuchen.
