Mask intentions of ex-Bossey student from China provide Swiss succour

Former Bossey student Rev. Jianmei Jing who works at the Jingling Protestant Church in Hongkou near Shanghai in China has shown that masking your intention can be a truly Christian act. At significant sacrifice during the current COVID-19 pandemic when they were in short supply, she managed to get hold of 300 face masks and sent them to the Bossey community who she knew needed them in Switzerland.

Religious leaders keep vision of peace alive on Korean Peninsula

Even as international tension mounts, religious leaders from North and South Korea renewed their exchange during a December meeting that kept the push for peace alive. Members of the Steering Committee of the Ecumenical Forum for Peace, Reunification and Cooperation on the Korean Peninsula – including delegations from the Korean Christian Federation (KCF) of North Korea and of the National Council of Churches in South Korea (NCCK) – met in Shenyang, China, on 2-3 December 2019.

Paving the way for ecumenical studies, learning English in Bossey

Each year students from all over the world arrive at Bossey near Geneva for a three-month language training course to pave their way for ecumenical studies that follow on straight after. “The title captures the goal of the course,” says Father Lawrence Iwuamadi, the Nigerian priest who studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and is academic dean of the Ecumenical Institute.

Youth in Asia Training for Religious Amity starts in Hong Kong

Youth in Asia Training for Religious Amity (YATRA) began at the Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre, Hong Kong on 7 July. World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit and a WCC delegation will visit member churches in China 7-16 January. The historic visit will begin the celebration of the WCC’s 70th anniversary. The WCC delegation, in addition to Tveit, includes WCC Asia president Dr Sang Chang and Rev. Dr Peniel Rajkumar, WCC programme executive for Interreligious Dialogue.

Tagung in Thailand befasst sich mit Frauenmentoring

Achtzehn Theologinnen aus Afrika und Asien haben anlässlich einer Tagung, die vom 20. bis 22. April in Bangkok (Thailand) stattfand, die Arbeit am Thema „Mentoring von Frauen für ökumenische Führungsaufgaben“ aufgenommen. Initiiert hatte die Tagung die Abteilung des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) für Ökumenische theologische Ausbildung, unterstützt wurde sie durch die Foundation for Theological Education in Southeast Asia.

Women’s mentoring focus of Thailand gathering

Eighteen women theologians from Africa and Asia began a journey of reflection and action around the theme “Women’s Mentoring for Ecumenical Leadership” in a 20-22 April consultation in Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting was convened by the WCC department on Ecumenical Theological Education and supported by the Foundation for Theological Education in Southeast Asia.

ÖRK-Exekutivausschuss beschließt Pläne für das Jahr 2017

Vom 17. bis 23. November tagte der Exekutivausschuss des ÖRK zum allerersten Mal in China. Gastgeber des Besuches waren der Chinesische Christenrat und die Patriotische Drei-Selbst-Bewegung. Letztere ist eine protestantische Kirche in der Volksrepublik China und eines der größten protestantischen Gremien weltweit.

Plans for 2017 decided by WCC Executive Committee

On 17-23 November, the Executive Committee of the WCC met for the first time ever in China. The visit was hosted by the China Christian Council and the Three-Self Patriotic Movement. The Three-Self Patriotic Movement is a Protestant church in the People's Republic of China, as well as one of the largest Protestant bodies in the world.
