Congratulatory message to HE Bishop Ayuso Guixot from WCC General Secretary

It was with great joy that I received the news that you have been nominated by His Holiness Pope Francis to become a Cardinal. We lift our hearts in joy and thanksgiving on this day that the Lord has made. Even as you prepare to take up this calling may I greet you with the words of the Apostle Peter “” (1 Peter 1:3).
We at the World Council of Churches consider this to be both a fitting recognition of your dedicated and distinguished work in the field of interreligious relations and also a welcome signal of how highly the work of PCID continues to be valued.

Message to the 27th International Ecumenical Conference on Orthodox Spirituality by WCC General Secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit

As one who has personally benefited from the hospitality and ecumenical spirituality of the Bose community, I am delighted to offer my greetings at the onset of your conference. The monastery remains a true ecumenical beacon in its commitment and contributions, as evidenced in the strong relationships and friendships of the community with the WCC and our members.
The Orthodox spirituality experienced and lived in this monastery cannot be separated from its continual sharing beyond its walls and beyond confessional borders. Life is communion: communion with each other and with God. The Apostle Paul says it beautifully: “In him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28). In the liturgy of John Chrysostom, we hear repeatedly: “Let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole lives to Christ our Lord.” This call teaches and reminds us what the Christian life is all about. Against any compartmentalization, it stresses the wholeness of the life which must be directed toward the source of life, which is God.

WCC General Secretary International Youth Day Greetings

It is with heartfelt sincerity and even a certain urgency that I greet you today in the name of the global fellowship of Christians that is the World Council of Churches. On this 19th celebration of International Youth Day, I especially greet those of you gathered in Seoul, Republic of Korea, and in Geneva, Switzerland.
Urgency, for we know that your gathering takes place in a time of increased international tensions, looming climatic deadlines, increasing disparities of income and wealth, and great rents in the social fabric of our societies.
