In a message sharing joyful greetings at Pentecost, World Council of Churches presidents from different regions across the world prayed for spiritual blessings and the felt presence of God.

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay shared joyful congratulations with Archbishop Hosam Naoum, who was installed as new primate of Anglican Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East.

“Tax justice is a matter of faith,” said Suzanne Matale. “By faith, [all] are entitled to abundant life. Ordinary people have a right to know and to participate in decision-making tables that affect our own God-given dignity.”

The World Council of Churches (WCC) will celebrate its 75th anniversary in multiple ways, starting in June and ending in December 2023, with a focus on promoting understanding and cooperation among Christians worldwide.

As the World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee meeting opened on 22 May,  WCC central committee moderator Bishop Dr Heinrich Bedford-Strohm offered remarks focusing on what the church can do for a world facing multiple crises. 

As the leaders of the World Communion of Reformed Churches convened, World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay extended warm greetings and prayers that God will guide and accompany them in their deliberations.

Churches in the southern hemisphere will observe the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity on 21-28 May, the week between Ascension and Pentecost. This year’s theme is “Do good; seek justice (Isaiah 1:17).”

An online meeting planned for 25 May, titled “Exploring the nexus between racism, xenophobia and the AfCTA, and AU free movement protocol,” will mark Africa Day.
