Beim Treffen der Arbeitsgruppe zum Klimawandel des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) diesen Monat freut sich die Beratergruppe darauf, die Früchte ihrer Arbeit zur  Reflexion und, am wichtigsten, zum Handeln bei der 11. Vollversammlung des ÖRK in Karlsruhe vorzustellen. Unten reflektiert P. Henrik Grape, leitender Berater bei der Arbeit zu Bewahrung der Schöpfung, Nachhaltigkeit und Klimagerechtigkeit, über die Arbeit zu Klimagerechtigkeit in Vorbereitung auf die Vollversammlung und darüber hinaus.

As the World Council of Churches (WCC) Climate Working Group meets this month, the advisory body is looking forward to offering the fruits of its work for reflection and, most important, action at the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe. Below, Rev. Henrik Grape, senior advisor on Care for Creation, Sustainability, and Climate Justice, reflects on climate justice work in the lead-up to the assembly and beyond.

Dr Louk Andrianos, WCC consultant on the Care for Creation, Sustainability and Climate Justice, reflects below on his hopes that the World Council of Churches (WCC) 11th Assembly will present the world with a chance to reconcile with our whole creation.

The Joint Report of the Ecumenical Indigenous Peoples Network Reference Group and the Working Group on Climate Change of the World Council of Churches (WCC) affirmed the integral and pivotal role Indigenous Peoples have in shaping an alternative path of being in the right relationship with the whole of Creation.

In einer Erklärung zum Klimanotstand forderte der Zentralausschuss des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) die 11. ÖRK-Vollversammlung und die Leitungsgremien dringend auf, „eine neue Kommission zum Klimawandel und für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung einzusetzen, um dem Problem in dieser entscheidenden Zeit angemessene Aufmerksamkeit zu schenken.“

The World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee, in a statement on climate change, urged consideration by the WCC 11th Assembly and governing bodies “of the establishment of a new Commission on Climate Change and Sustainable Development in order to bring the appropriate focus to this issue in this pivotal period.”

On 8 June, at a meeting of the 2050Today initiative in Geneva, World Council of Churches (WCC) acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca spoke about the WCC’s pioneering work on climate change as well as its current Green Village sustainable development project.

Das wurde den Teilnehmenden an einer Tagung eindringlich nahegelegt, die unter Federführung des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen organisiert worden war.

Mai hat auf die Bedeutung des vor kurzem veröffentlichten richtungsweisenden gemeinsamen Aufrufs „Klimaverträgliche Finanzen – ein moralisches Gebot gegenüber Kindern“ verwiesen, unterzeichnet vom Ökumenischen Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK), dem Umweltprogramm der Vereinten Nationen, dem Muslimischen Ältestenrat und dem Rabbinerausschuss von New York.
