The WCC Pilgrim Team Visits (PTV) will focus on indigenous communities on Standing Rock, particularly along the shore of the Missouri River (Lake Oahe) and their struggle for justice, including water justice. The PTV is hosted by the The Standing Rock Episcopal Community & North Dakota Council on Indian Ministries. Rev. Dr John Floberg is the focal point for the host.

From prayer cards to personal reflections, online gatherings to new connections, the images worldwide convey the spiritual richness of an ecumenical family that came together in prayer.

Youth participants lead a moment of prayer, through a dramatic choreography inviting gestures in interaction between the youth and other participants. Hundreds of people gather from across the world for an ecumenical prayer service at the Nieuwe Kerk, a 15th-century church in Amsterdam, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the World Council of Churches at the very spot in which the organization was founded.

A new weekly podcast series, “Pilgrimages of Striving and Thriving,” aims to draw wisdom from Black churches in the US through engaging conversations with pastoral leaders. The tone of the series, produced by Lott Carey, encourages transparency on how spiritual gifts interact with unique settings for ministry.

Below, Rev. Dr David Emmanuel Goatley, who cohosts the podcast, reflects on the path that led to the series, the response to the conversations so far, and hopes for future inspiration.

Interfaith prayer breakfast on HIV

An interfaith prayer breakfast will be held during the United Nations General Assembly will renew commitment to a shared vision of ending AIDS by 2030. Organized by the World Council of Churches – Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance (WCC – EAA), in collaboration with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and the UN Interagency Task Force on Religion and Development (IATF), this will be a unique opportunity to strengthen current collaboration and to forge new partnerships between faiths and other sectors.

Interfaith service on ending AIDS

The interfaith service, held on the eve of the United Nations High Level Meeting on AIDS, is an opportunity to gather in prayer to remember those we know who have died of AIDS; to celebrate the progress made so far in the global response to AIDS; to reflect on our role as Faith Based Organizations and faith leaders in calling for and then implementing a strong Political Declaration on AIDS; and to commit ourselves to the Political Declaration.
