En medio de una de las peores crisis de salud pública del mundo, los cristianos de Brasil mantienen su tradición de celebrar la Semana de Oración por la Unidad de los Cristianos en vísperas de Pentecostés. Por segundo año, se reunirán en oración aunque sin encuentros físicos.

In the midst of one of the worst public health crises in the world, Christians in Brazil are upholding their tradition of celebrating the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in the lead up to Pentecost. For the second year, they will be gathering in prayer without physical gatherings though. 

The new surge in COVID-19 related hospitalizations and deaths has drastically increased the need for pastoral care almost everywhere. Brazil and Great Britain are two hard-hit countries, where the pandemic has brought existential questions on the table.  

“As Christians, we are called every day to generously practice hospitality”, said Bishop Samuel Aguilar, from the Methodist Church of Peru, as he lamented cases of xenophobia, discrimination and violence suffered by thousands of Venezuelans in different parts of Latin America.

“Como cristianos, todos los días estamos llamados a practicar la hospitalidad con generosidad”, dijo el obispo Samuel Aguilar, de la Iglesia Metodista del Perú, al tiempo que lamentaba los casos de xenofobia, discriminación y violencia sufridos por miles de venezolanos en diferentes partes de América Latina.

On 18-22 March, the World Council of Churches (WCC) Faith and Order Commission gathered at Faculdade Unida de Vitoria in Brazil for a consultation entitled “Towards a Global Vision of the Church”.

Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, ha dicho a los participantes del Tercer Encuentro Mundial del Foro Cristiano Mundial (FCM) en Bogotá (Colombia) que el FCM destaca por crear confianza entre los participantes y abrir caminos a nuevas formas de cooperación.

As part of a Pilgrimage Reference Group meeting in Bogota, Colombia from 6-10 February, a WCC delegation visited the headquarters of the Conference of Latin American Bishops (CELAM).

Como parte la reunión del Grupo de Referencia de la Peregrinación de Justicia y Paz en Bogotá (Colombia) del 6 al 10 de febrero, una delegación del CMI visitó la sede del Consejo Episcopal Latinoamericano (CELAM).

Some 40 participants, coming mainly from Latin American countries, attended a consultation promoted by the WCC entitled “Together Towards Life: Mission in the 21st Century”, from 30 April – 4 May, in Rosario, Argentina.

“From the very beginning, women in the ecumenical movement have been raising the question of who is missing around the table and why,” said Dr Fulata Mbano-Moyo, speaking at the Latin American Congress on Gender and Religion.
