In seiner Rede vor der Kommission für Glauben und Kirchenverfassung des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) im Rahmen der historischen Tagung in Indonesien drückte ÖRK-Generalsekretär Pastor Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay seine Dankbarkeit für die Arbeit der Kommission und seine Hoffnung für die ökumenische Reise im Jahr 2025 aus.

As the World Council of Churches Commission on Faith and Order convened in North Sulawesi, Indonesia from 1-8 February, the gathering was underscored with hope at the heart of a Christian message to the world. 

Speaking to the World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission on Faith and Order during the commission’s historic meeting in Indonesia, WCC general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay expressed gratitude for the commission’s work, and hope for the ecumenical journey in 2025.

The National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK) has published a “2023 Easter Prayer for Peace and Reunification on the Korean Peninsula”, an annual observance which carries special significance this year, 70 years after the Korean War ceasefire established by the 1953 Armistice Agreement.

A Global Peace Prayer on 22 March will draw Christians together in hope for a better future. A communique from a prayer planning committee explained that Christians are called into prayer and advocacy for peace. “In a global context where war and violence abound, the practice of peace has become even more urgent,” reads the message.

Das Kommuniqué eines Planungsausschusses für dieses Friedensgebet erklärt, dass christliche Gläubige zu Gebet und Fürsprachearbeit für Frieden aufgerufen sind. „In einem globalen Kontext, in dem es zu viel Krieg und Gewalt gibt, ist ein Engagement für Frieden dringlicher geworden denn je“, heißt es in dem Kommuniqué.

Erzbischof Pastor Dr. Soritua Albert Ernest Nababan, eine international bekannte ökumenische Führungspersönlichkeit, ist am 8. Mai in Jakarta, Indonesien, im Alter von 88 Jahren verstorben. Er war von 2006 bis 2013 Präsident des ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) und hatte als Ephorus (Erzbischof) in der Huria Kristen Batak Protestan, der größten protestantischen Kirche in Indonesien und der größten lutherischen Kirche in Asien mit vier Millionen Mitgliedern, eine Führungsposition inne.

Archbishop Rev. Dr Soritua Albert Ernest Nababan, a global ecumenical leader, passed away on 8 May in Jakarta, Indonesia, at the age of 88. He was the World Council of Churches (WCC) president from 2006-2013 and served as the former Ephorus (Archbishop) of the Huria Kristen Batak Protestan, the largest Protestant church in Indonesia and the largest Lutheran church in Asia with a membership of 4 million people.

The National Council of Churches in Korea has published a booklet of worship resources for National Reconciliation Week, which is being observed 15-25 June.

Convening in Chiang Mai, Thailand, the gathering explored evangelism as an effective means to extend and spread the good news. The WCC and the Christian Conference of Asia have a long his-tory and tradition of being deeply involved in mission and evangelism through different program-matic areas.

Im gemeinsamen Gebet, durch den Austausch von Prediger/innen oder in ökumenischen Gottesdiensten geben sie Zeugnis von Jesu Gebet für seine Jünger, „dass sie alle eins seien, damit die Welt glaube“.

From 18-25 January, Christians will embark on the largest prayer gathering in the world, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Whether praying together, exchanging preachers or planning ecumenical services, they will bear witness to Jesus’s prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe.”

Rev. Dr Jooseop Keum received an honorary doctorate on 8 September from the Debrecen Reformed Theological University (DRTU) in Hungary. Keum, a pastor with the Presbyterian Church in Korea, is a former World Council of Churches executive and long-time friend of the Reformed Church in Hungary.
