But as for you, man of God, shun all this; pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life, to which you were called and for which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

L:           Holy wisdom, Holy Word.

Prayers of intercession

L:          Look with mercy, O Lord, on all who are struggling to breathe today because of COVID-19 pandemic. We pray for those who gasp for oxygen and wait in vain for hospital beds, for those whose mourning is prolonged as they wait for a place to lay their loved ones to rest in burial grounds and crematoriums.

All:      Ruach, breath of God, breathe your peace on us

L:         We pray for your Church throughout the world, its leaders and all members, as they diligently seek to serve our pandemic-ridden world. Grant them your provision, wisdom and grace in abundance.

All:       Ruach, breath of God, breathe your strength on us

L.         We pray for the governments of India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Help them to hear the cry ‘I cannot breathe’ from all those who continue to advocate for the rights and freedom of the most neglected. Implant in them the will to do good and what is right. Free them from political compulsions as they exercise their authority.

All:      Ruach, breath of God, breathe your courage on us

L:         Lord, we pray for your creation as it groans in travail as it continues to be choked by consumerism and capitalism in these countries. We remember all those affected by climate injustice and those who seek to restore the integrity of your creation.

All:      Ruach, breath of God, breathe your hope on us

L:         Lord, we thankfully remember your faithful departed whose passing away has immersed communities in sadness and shock. We pray for their bereaved families. May they find peace and comfort in the hope opened to us through Christ’s resurrection, which helps us to believe that death and suffering will not have the last say.

All:      Ruach, breath of God, breathe your love on us

the light who guides us on our way.

All:        May our hope be that the Sun of Justice

will rise on all humankind and our world.

May the God of Peace, our constant companion,

lead us along paths of solidarity and hope,

and give us the peace and joy of being united in God’s love. Amen.
