As the World Council of Churches (WCC) closely monitors the recent political developments in Bangladesh, I wish to extend our solidarity and support to the Bangladeshi people during this critical time.

In light of the current situation, we urge the Bangladeshi military forces to prioritize the swift return to civilian rule. The establishment of a stable, democratic government is crucial for the nation's long-term peace and prosperity.

We encourage all parties to engage in dialogue and work collaboratively towards a peaceful transition.

In this critical period, the WCC reaffirms the National Council of Churches in Bangladesh’s call for prayers for ethnic and religious minorities that are currently under attack in different parts of the country.

Furthermore, the WCC emphasizes the importance of safeguarding the well-being of the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. These individuals, who have already faced immense hardship, must be protected and their rights upheld during this period of political change.

We stand with the people of Bangladesh, urging all stakeholders to work towards a just, peaceful, and inclusive future. The WCC reaffirms its commitment to supporting justice, peace, and human dignity in Bangladesh and across the globe.

We appeal to the United Nations and the international community to intensify their efforts in providing humanitarian aid, as well as technical and financial assistance to Bangladesh, ensuring that the country can navigate its political and economic transitions while addressing political turmoil and the pressing impacts of climate change.
