The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
Psalm 9:9

Dear sisters and brothers,

Thank you for a very profound and impactful contribution on the Haitian context within the COVID-19 pandemic during the Caribbean webinar on 6 July. Your description of the situation in Haiti gave us food for thought and offered an added impetus to explore how we might accompany you in these times.  Hearing of the presidents assassination on 7 July filled us with profound shock and horror and underscored the need for prayerful solidarity and accompaniment.

In light of the mixed news reports, we have been trying to contact you to discern how you are coping, and to extend our great concern and compassion to you regarding the unfolding events surrounding President Moises death.

On behalf of the global ecumenical fellowship represented by the World Council of Churches, we want to express our deepest condolences to you, our sisters and brothers.

Be assured that you are held in our prayers during this challenging time. It is our prayer and desire that the presidents death will not negatively impact the development and well-being of the citizens of Haiti.

We extend our sympathies, most especially to those who mourn, and we pray for peace and comfort in this time.

Yours in our common Lord,

Elaine Dykes
