Dear Rev. Prof. Dr Boss,
On behalf of the World Council of Churches’ Commission on Faith and Order, I write to extend our warmest congratulations and heartfelt gratitude as you approach retirement and move on from this remarkable chapter of your academic and ecclesiastical life.
For more than two decades, you have shaped generations of Protestant theologians in France and beyond. Your scholarly formation has given you a rare ability to hold together rigorous philosophical inquiry and a deeply rooted theological commitment.
Your engagement with the ecumenical movement has been of major importance. As a member of the WCC central committee, representing the Église protestante unie de France, and as a member of the Commission on Faith and Order, you have brought your gifts to the service of the global Christian fellowship. Your presence in our discussions has consistently combined intellectual depth, theological insight, and a genuine commitment to the search for Christian unity. We are grateful that we will still continue to benefit from your involvement in the work of the WCC and the Faith and Order commission.
Through your writings and your teaching, you have contributed substantially to shaping theological reflection and ecumenical dialogue in our time.
We trust that retirement will offer you the freedom for sustained reading, fresh writing, and new avenues of intellectual and spiritual exploration, together with the rest and renewal that such a rich vocation deserves. We have no doubt that your voice will continue to be heard, through your scholarship, through the conversations you inspire, and through the many students, colleagues, and fellow theologians whose thinking you have profoundly influenced.
We also look forward to the possibility that this new season may afford additional opportunities for your involvement in our common work, allowing us to continue benefiting from your wisdom, experience, and theological insight in the years ahead.
