The WCC is deeply concerned by the escalating violence and laments the suffering inflicted on the people of Sudan. The WCC urges an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan and calls on all parties to respect international humanitarian law and to prioritize peace, justice, and the protection of human rights for all Sudanese people.
The WCC emphasizes the moral, ethical, and legal responsibility of all parties to protect civilians and to seek sustainable peace. We highlight the growing humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan exacerbated by this latest assault, and express particular concern for the safety of women, children, and other vulnerable groups who have borne the brunt of the ongoing violence. We call on all members of the international community to refrain from actions that sustain and perpetuate the violence, and to support the Sudanese people in the midst of this crisis, by greatly increased humanitarian response and by sustained political engagement for negotiations for peace.
The WCC reaffirms its commitment to advocating for peace and justice in Sudan, and calls upon churches, faith communities, and humanitarian organizations worldwide to speak and act in solidarity with the Sudanese people. The WCC urges diplomatic actions that prioritize peace-building and reconciliation, emphasizing that true peace is rooted in justice, compassion, and the protection of human dignity. We continue to pray for an end to violence and the restoration of peace in Sudan.
