18 March 2025
The World Council of Churches (WCC) is deeply alarmed and grieved by the deadly attack on Gaza carried out by Israeli forces on 17-18 March 2025 killing more than 400 people.
We unequivocally condemn this unnecessary re-escalation of violence, which has led to more deaths and further suffering for innocent civilians, including women and children.
As a fellowship of churches committed to justice and peace, we call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a renewed commitment to dialogue and diplomatic solutions.
The cycle of violence must end, and all parties must adhere to international humanitarian law, ensuring the protection of all people, especially the most vulnerable.
We also strongly condemn the recent U.S. airstrikes on Yemen, which have further destabilized the region and inflicted additional suffering on an already vulnerable population.
Military action cannot be a path to peace; rather, it exacerbates humanitarian crises and deepens cycles of conflict. The people of Yemen, like those in Gaza, deserve security, dignity, and the opportunity to live free from fear and violence.
We stand in solidarity with all those affected by these tragedies and urge the international community to intensify efforts toward a just and lasting peace in these contexts and around the world.
In this Lenten season, we pray for the healing of the wounded, for the consolation of the bereaved, and for a future in which justice and peace prevail.
