The World Council of Churches joins Archbishop Hosam Naoum and other church leaders in condemning in the strongest terms yet another deliberate and unconscionable attack on the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza. The attack killed five people, including three journalists.
We grieve the continued targeting of a place of healing and refuge—run by our Anglican sisters and brothers—and the disregard for the sanctity of medical facilities, protected under international humanitarian law. These acts constitute grave violations that must be urgently investigated and prosecuted.
The WCC reiterates that allegations of misuse of hospitals cannot justify systematic and cruel assaults. We call on the international community to hold accountable those responsible for war crimes, and to ensure the protection of all civilians and humanitarian institutions.
Together with the churches in the Holy Land, we cry out for justice, accountability, and a just peace.
