“For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

(I Corinthians 2.2)

Your humility is
the key which unlocks unity in a divided world,
the secret which reconciles us with one another,
the trust which turns us towards the love of God,
the balm which heals our wounds,
the light which strengthens us,
the door to our hearts,
the window open to the work of the Holy Spirit,
the pathway through the darkest valleys.

Jesus, grant that we may at all moments contemplate your humility
by your incarnation in Mary’s womb
from the manger to the cross
through all your actions and words
by your praying without ceasing to the Father
through the washing of your disciples feet
through the opposition you encountered
through the forgiveness you offered to those who tortured you
through your utter abandonment on the cross
through the discretion of the resurrection on the third day
through the gift of your Spirit who communicates you to us.

Come Holy Spirit, endow us with that humility
which was the imprint of Jesus’s whole life.
