Eminences, Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen,

The affirmation of one humanity and the value of human dignity within and with creation is at the heart of the search and aspirations of the fellowship of the 349 churches with more than 480 million people that constitute the World Council of Churches.

We have an obligation to care for each other and for our common home, the Earth for which we were entrusted to be caretakers. Creation is not for some to consume and leave others behind.

As people of faith, we have to be prophetic and tell the truth of the state we are in. All people of good will need to bring their voices and commit to an ecological conversion; a change of our way of living together, in our common oikos. We see the urgency. We hear the cry of the poor and the cry of the earth.
