During the visit, he met with WCC general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay and programme staff.
The meeting offered an opportunity to strengthen relationships within the ecumenical movement and to reflect together on the shared mission of the prophetic church in today’s polarized world.
“I deeply appreciate the World Communion of Reformed Churches and Philip in his new role as the general secretary—marking the first time the position is held by a leader from Asia,” Pillay said. “It is a testament not only to his personal gifts and accomplishments but also to the vision and commitment he have consistently demonstrated in service to the global Reformed family.”
Pillay noted that Peacock’s leadership within the World Communion of Reformed Churches as executive secretary for Justice and Witness has already left an indelible mark. “The ways in which Philip has guided the communion’s work on economic and ecological justice, grounded in the Reformed theological tradition, have been deeply inspiring,” said Pillay. “He brings a unique perspective that elevates the voices of marginalised communities, allowing their stories to resonate within the broader church context.”
Peacock expressed gratitude for the support and accompaniment of the World Council of Churches.
“I am very grateful for the support and accompaniment of the WCC through the years, and particularly now in my role as the general secretary,” said Peacock. “I am very much looking forward to deepening the collaboration, and acting as one ecumenical body in a fragmented, polarized, and violent world.”
Peacock noted that prophetic witness is needed now more than ever. “We have to act together for a better and equal world,” he said.
