The World Council of Churches, working with the Jamaica Council of Churches and Caribbean and North America Council for Mission, offered a training in Jamaica to help people cope with violence against children, particularly sexual violence, gang-related violence, and gun violence.

Participants came from nine different churches and organisations around Jamaica, including United, Baptist, Methodist and Moravian churches, and The Salvation Army.

The goal of the workshop was to introduce participants to the Universal Periodic Review, a unique process which involves a periodic review of the human rights records of all 193 United Nations member states process. Jamaica will be reviewed in May 2020.

The workshop was also designed to help equip participants to engage with children around the process to ensure their inputs are reflected in a WCC-coordinated submission by October 2019.
