The World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission on World Mission and Evangelism Theology in Mission Working Group gathered from 28 October to 2 November in Kottayam, India.
The group worked on a draft of a concept paper as a theological contribution from the WCC Commission on World Mission and Evangelism to the theme for the 2021 WCC Assembly at Karlsruhe, “Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity”.
The paper, “Missiological Exploration of the 2021 WCC Assembly Theme” will be presented to the entire commission for comment and input. “We look forward to helping the WCC fellowship prepare, both theologically and spiritually, for the assembly,” said the director of the WCC Commission on World Mission and Evangelism, Rev. Dr Risto Jukko.
Commission moderator Metropolitan Dr Mor Geevarghese Coorilos hosted the meeting.
The group visited the encampment of 500 homeless and landless people on a rubber plantation at Areeppa, offering human solidarity and prayerful concern.
Coorilos said: “The caste system is worse than racism. Since its discrimination is underpinned by religious ideology and theological justification, it is even more difficult to eradicate.”
