The visit included a Mayors Reception on 18 May at the Marketplatz. Local officials received an update on assembly planning, learned how youth will be involved in creative ways, and reflected on how eager WCC member churches are to participate.

WCC thanked the city of Karlsruhe for its intense collaboration and financial contributions related to the assembly.

Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca, WCC acting general secretary, in the message presented by Rev. Dr Benjamin Simon, WCC programme executive for Church Relations, commended the creative thought and hard work that have already gone into assembly preparations.

I am grateful to all who have contributed thus far, and I am confident that, with our continued collaboration, the support of the churches, and God's continued blessings, our WCC 11th Assembly will deeply contribute to the life, witness, and spirituality of Christians everywhere,” he said.

Karlsruhe mayor for Cultural Affairs Dr Albert Käuflein expressed how happy he was when he learned that the WCC decided to have its assembly in the city. Lots of things are going on already in our churches as they prepare to welcome you to this incredible event,” he said. It is a privilege to all of us in Karlsruhe to welcome people from so many different parts of the world.”

Käuflein added that the WCC assembly will take place at the heart of Karlsruhe and will surely leave a strong mark in peoples lives. It will be a unique opportunity for all of us to learn more from each other,” he said. I am sure that when you leave Karlsruhe you will have a very positive image of our people and hospitality.”

The visit served to introduce WCC staff who have specific planning assembly planning needs to the venue of the assembly, the city of Karlsruhe and the key locations.
