On 5 February 1855, two Christian missionaries, Carl Wilhelm Ottow and Johann Gottlob Geissler, landed on Mansinam island, Papua, marking their first day in the land. “From them, we learn we can witness to God’s presence even in the midst of hardship,” wrote Sauca.
The WCC is committed to bringing a message of hope into situations of violence, suffering and brokenness around the world, Sauca continued.
“The WCC has, over many decades, continuously prayed and advocated for peace, justice and human rights for the people of Papua,” he wrote. “We hope and pray that God will bless this work, and bring peace and justice to the land of Papua.”
