Pillay reflected that this theme speaks powerfully to our time. “The search for meaning, justice, peace, and community in a world marked by fragmentation and conflict resonates strongly also within the ecumenical movement today,” he wrote. “You, together with millions around the globe, carry profound questions about identity, purpose, and what it truly means to live well.”
Many young people, Pillay continued, are acutely aware of injustice.
“Justice flows from truth lived in love, where light reveals what harms life and opens the way toward healing and reconciliation,” he wrote. “May your encounter be a sign of hope – a community where people are seen, heard, supported, and encouraged to grow in faith and trust.”
The Pilgrimage of Trust will extend from 28 December 2025 to 1 January 2026. Thousands of young people will gather. The programme includes New Year celebrations in host parishes across the region.
