The 2026 General Council of the Reformed Church in America is taking place in Nashville, Tennessee (US) from 11 to 16 June.
In his message, Pillay expressed gratitude for the faithful service of church leaders past and present and prayed for God’s continued guidance of the the Reformed Church in America’s ministries.
The message, conveyed on behalf of Pillay by Rev. Garland F. Pierce, executive director of Christian Education at the African Methodist Episcopal Church and former WCC staff, emphasized that Christian hope is especially vital amid global uncertainty, conflict, division, and social challenges. The WCC affirmed that churches are called not only to endure difficult realities but to “abound in hope” through common witness, service, and commitment to reconciliation.
Reflecting on the ecumenical movement, the WCC pointed to initiatives such as the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle and the Pilgrimage of Justice, Reconciliation, and Unity as expressions of global Christian solidarity. “These efforts encourage churches across traditions and regions to pray together, work for justice, and respond collectively to issues including conflict, climate challenges, inequality, and threats to human dignity,” reads the message.
The message concluded with a call to continue walking together in faith, recognizing that “authentic Christian unity is built through mutual respect, shared action, and a commitment to embody the reconciling love of Christ.”
Pillay offered prayers that the Reformed Church in America’s witness and partnership in the ecumenical movement would contribute to God’s healing work in the world.
