“As a fellow African, I am mindful of the challenges that are prevalent in the
African continent,” Pillay wrote. “Indeed, in such a context the church is called to hold out hope and healing as we proclaim the love of Christ to the world around us and beyond.”
Pillay thanked God for the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa’s commitment to unity.
“Your church is truly united across cultural, territorial, linguistic, ethnic,
economic, ideological, and transnational boundaries,” he wrote. “We give thanks to God that the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa has been a WCC member church since 1968.”
Pillay concluded by assuring the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa that they are co-pilgrims on the Pilgrimage of Justice, Reconciliation, and Unity that seeks to create a better and peaceful world for all people and creation.
“Be assured that the WCC continues to journey with you in your context and desires to be co-pilgrims with you in fostering hope and healing in your context and in the world,” he wrote.
