WCC sends expression of gratitude to Jamaica Baptist Union convention

World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay sent a message of gratitude to the Jamaica Baptist Union convention. “Each New Year is laden with possibilities and promise,” wrote Pillay.

“Given the increased cases of violence and crime, the slow pace of economic recovery, ongoing trauma resulting from wars – internal and external — and the deleterious effect of the climate catastrophe, there is little doubt that as human beings, we are far from being in control.”

That is where the work of the church becomes most relevant, Pillay continued. “Throughout history, the church has played a vital role in offering hope and brokering peace for the discomfited in tumultuous times, and this new season can be no exception,” he wrote.

“The work and witness of the Jamaica Baptist Union continues not only with the Baptist World Alliance, but also in the World Council of Churches during our last assembly period.”
