Since April 2020, Garba had been co-director of the centre, which was established in 2016 with the support of the WCC, working with local and international Christian and Muslim partners.

Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca, WCC acting general secretary, reflected: In his role as co-director of the International Centre for Interfaith Peace and Harmony, with particular responsibility for strategy and partnerships, Mr Garba has made an invaluable contribution. He will be sorely missed.”

Sauca added that Garbas work at the centre exemplified the reality that, throughout his working life, Garba was deeply committed to improving the lives of the people of Nigeria, both Muslim and Christian. Previous to his work at the centre in the field of peace-making and conflict management Mr Garba had spent a number of years working in various ways to combat the scourge of HIV and AIDS,” said Sauca. We offer our profound condolences, especially to the family of Mr Garba."
