Pillay’s agenda in India starts on 8 February, in Chunakkara, in the region of Kerala, with the celebrations of 125 years of the St Thomas Mar Thoma Church Chunakkara, a prominent parish within the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church. Established in 1900, the church has been a cornerstone of faith and community for over a century.

From 9-12 February, the WCC general secretary will take part of the 130th Maramon Convention, a significant event for Christians, not only from Kerala but also from around the world.

Held in the village of Maramon, near the Pampa River in Kerala, India, this convention is organized by the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar. It typically takes place in February and lasts for about a week.

From 13-14 February, Pillay will be in Cochin to meet church leaders and the leadership of the National Council of Churches in India.

During the visit to India, Pillay will be accompanied by Dr Mathews George Chunakara, general secretary of the Christian Conference of Asia and moderator of the WCC Commission of the Churches on International Affairs; and Dr Manoj Kurian, director of the WCC Commission of the Churches on Health and Healing.
