The visit occurred after Pillay preached at the General Conference of the United Methodist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina (US).

Pillay said, "It was really wonderful to spend time with Dr Wilson. Our long conversations covered a wide area of discussions on the current global crises, the work of the WCC and Pentecostal World Fellowship, possibilities of strengthening relationships and collaboration, and the ministry and services provided through the Oral Roberts University.”

Pillay added that he was most impressed by the visionary leadership of Wilson and the work done through the university. The World Council of Churches looks forward to more meaningful engagements and collaborations with the Pentecostal World Fellowship,” said Pillay.

Currently, such collaboration occurs via the Joint Consultative Group between the WCC and Pentecostals, a platform for dialogue, encouragement, and cooperation, facilitating Pentecostal inputs to all areas of the WCCs work.

The Joint Consultative Group between the WCC and Pentecostals was created following a decision of the WCC Assembly in Harare 1998, in order to search for better ways of understanding one another, to look for new opportunities for mutual learning and action, and to share experiences of Christian witness.
