After receiving a welcome, Järvinen and Laine met with WCC general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, who expressed appreciation for their collaborative spirit.
“I am grateful for the longstanding commitment of Finn Church Aid for the ecumenical movement,” he said. “During challenging times, walking, working, and praying with one another offers a sense of renewed hope and strengthens our determination to trust in God’s guidance.”
Järvinen acknowledged the unprecedented funding challenges in the humanitarian and development sectors. “This will underline the role of faith-based actors who are not tossed around by political winds but who boldly stand by the principle of loving one’s neighbor no matter how circumstances change,” he said. “The World Council of Churches and Finn Church Aid are such actors, and we remain committed to mutual collaboration, especially in the spaces of peace, human rights, and gender justice. We will not retreat. We will go forward.”
