The WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany,  published a statement that urges support for the churches and peoples of Syria, Cuba, Venezuela and Zimbabwe in the midst of oppression due to international sanctions that affect these populationshuman rights and dignity.

Churches have been crucial agents working for better relationships despite the limitations and barriers caused by sanctions. We call for the removal of Cuba from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism and to accompany the churches as prophetic voices of peace, hope, cooperation and mutual respect.”

The UN resolution, Decides to include in the provisional agenda of its seventy-eighth session the item entitled Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.’ ”

Sauca concluded: We congratulate you on the United Nations General Assembly resolution and pray for a just outcome for your people.”
