“We join the Focolare Movement in giving thanks to God for the life and witness of Emmaus Maria Voce, who offered her life in total dedication to the vision of unity and peace.”
Voce led the movement through a significant period of transition, ensuring its continued vitality and fidelity to its founding inspiration.
“Her spiritual depth, theological insight, and steadfast commitment to Christian unity and interreligious dialogue have been recognised by many who were touched by her presence,” wrote Pillay. “She will be remembered as a woman of profound listening, gracious welcome, and deep trust in God’s providence – an expression of love that resonates deeply within the ecumenical family and beyond.”
Pillay especially commended Voce’s ability to bridge divides, foster understanding, and uphold the dignity of every person in bearing lasting fruit in the church’s ecumenical and interfaith efforts.
“We join you in mourning her loss, while holding in our hearts the love she shared and the hope – however quietly held – that she now knows the joy of the resurrection,” wrote Pillay. “Please be assured of our prayerful solidarity and communion.”
