As the Finnish Mission Council observed its centenary, Dr Risto Jukko, director of the World Council of Churches Commission on World Mission and Evangelism, spoke about the relation between Finnish mission work and the international mission movement.

Jukko noted that, from the very beginning, the Finnish mission movement, born mostly of revivals, has received insights, even inspiration, abroad, mainly from European and Nordic mission actors, but without a colonial or hegemonic burden. "Finnish mission actors have participated in and contributed in a substantial way both to ecumenical as well as evangelical and Pentecostal mission movements in worldwide,” Jukko said. "The mutuality has been fruitful and necessary.”

Finnish mission work has become more diverse and more engaged with the world changing very rapidly, Jukko continued. “An evening celebration with young people also showed in an encouraging way how there is a new generation of young Finnish Christians ready to commit themselves to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ,” he said.
