The plans and budget reviewed in November 2022 included a programme deficit of CHF 2 million, mainly brought about by the fluctuating currency rates. In response, the executive committee approved a transfer of CHF 700,000 from general reserves to programme funds. The executive committee instructed the acting general secretary and general secretary-elect to address the remaining CHF 1.3 million programme deficit.

Contributions from WCC member churches and partners have remained strong, allowing the WCC to raise a consistent level of funding, but the currency exchange rate has caused a net decrease. Although the WCC’s funds and reserves increased in the last three consecutive years, the WCC is under pressure because of adverse exchange rates.

The WCC executive committee is also addressing pending business from November, namely the approval of minutes from May/June, July, and August meetings of the previous executive committee.

The executive committee is also considering approving the composition of membership of the Jerusalem Liaison Office Advisory Group, after which the group will begin a new mandate.

Expected outcomes from the meeting include publishing programme plans and budgets for 2023 to funding partners and to staff for implementation.
