The WCC Eco School, originally to be held in November 2020 in the Pacific region, had to be postponed for a second time. Unfortunately, response to the invitation for the Eco School (18-24 January 2021) to churches in the Pacific region was lower than expected. Our host, the Pacific Conference of Churches has advised us to postpone it to 22-28 February 2021.  The COVID-19 related challenges, the Christmas and New Year season and a possible fatigue for online events, might have contributed to the low response.

The Eco School that is planned in two phases, has already successfully completed the 1st phase of a Training of Trainers with 10 participants from five selected countries (Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, Tuvalu and Solomon Islands) from 11-13 December 2020.  In the 2nd phase, these trained participants are expected to organize the “in-person” Eco School in those 5 countries simultaneously with the help of local resource persons and overall supervision of the Pacific Conference of Churches.  The WCC Eco School team will facilitate the Eco School, online in those five countries. This hybrid model is a first of its kind for WCC and the WCC Eco School team is anxiously waiting for this unique experience—the “new normal” due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

We invite the churches in the Pacific region from these 5 countries to encourage their youth, below 30, to apply for the Eco School by 10 February 2021.
