The visit, which is convening under the theme That All of Them May be One,” seeks to affirm the ecumenical presence for peace and unity of the body of Christ. The objective is to pray with, listen, inspire, and encourage the leaders of South Sudan Council of Churches and its member churches as they go through a transition of leadership.

The South Sudan Council of Churches continues to play a key role in facilitating inclusive and peaceful resolution of conflicts at all levels. Church leaders have accompanied both local actors and national leaders in addressing issues affecting the country in a peaceful manner. The church continues to work with communities, who have demonstrated resilience, being troubled but not destroyed and committed to rebuilding the country together.

The Ecumenical Network of South Sudan will share a message on the International Day of Peace, 21 September. The WCC delegation will also visit member churches in South Sudan.

The WCC delegation includes Fajak Kuku, from the Episcopal Church of Sudan and a member of the WCC Commission of the Churches on International Affairs; Rev. Dr Ibrahim Wushishi Yusuf, WCC programme executive for Peacebuilding in Africa; and Bishop Samuel E. P. Tari from the Episcopal Church of South Sudan.
