“As churches engage in analysis of doctrines and church polity, the contact points and divergent points that emerge lead Christians on a path of affirming common beliefs that ground our witness to the world,” reflected Pillay. “Entry points to what divides churches also emerge in that process and become points of focus for study and for life together in reconciled diversity.”
Pillay acknowledged the high sense of polarisation globally, within nations, churches, and families. “The vocation of Faith and Order provides a counter narrative to the fragmentation the world faces by pointing us to the prayer of Jesus Christ to be one so that the world may believe,” he noted. “I congratulate you for bearing witness in the South Korean context and beyond, by living and witnessing to the gospel in your reconciled diversity.”
