World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit offered a warm congratulations to Bishop Miguel Ayuso upon his nomination as cardinal.

“We at the World Council of Churches consider this to be both a fitting recognition of your dedicated and distinguished work in the field of interreligious relations and also a welcome signal of how highly the work of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue continues to be valued,” wrote Tveit. “It is always a great pleasure and extremely fruitful for my colleagues and myself here at the WCC to work with you and your colleagues.”

Tveit added that he especially appreciates Ayuso's commitment to fostering dialogue ecumenically, which has ensured that interreligious engagement remains an important aspect of ecumenical Christian witness in a multi-religious world.

“We look forward very much to further collaboration during your tenure as president of the council,” concluded Tveit. “I send you our warmest congratulations and sincere prayers for God’s blessing on your work.”
