“The EKD synod meeting in Würzburg expressed their trust in your vision and dedication,” they wrote. “Your leadership, rooted in a deep commitment to justice, compassion, and unity, will undoubtedly guide the EKD into a new chapter of growth and faithfulness.”
The message noted Fehrs’ words on upholding the church’s mission, whether through tackling pressing issues like sexual abuse and violence or embracing reforms to strengthen the church community.
"May you be blessed with wisdom and resilience in your service as you lead the EKD Council over the coming years,” they wrote. “We pray that your work will bear fruit in bringing hope and renewal to the church and to all who seek comfort within its embrace.”
The two WCC leaders concluded: “Please accept our prayers and best wishes for this new role. The World Council of Churches stands with you, committed to supporting you in your calling.”
