In a congratulatory letter, World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay expressed great joy and gratitude over the appointment of Archbishop Mor Anthimos Jack Yakoub as the patriarchal vicar for Jerusalem, Jordan, and the Holy Land by His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II.
“You take up this leadership in critical and challenging times for our people and our churches in the Holy Land,” wrote Pillay. “Your wisdom, guidance, and prayer are needed more than ever to bring back hope to the Christian communities and restore their strength through our Christian faith and service.”
Pillay extended prayers on behalf of the global fellowship. “Our prayers will accompany you in your mission and as a worldwide fellowship of churches, we stand with you on this journey of justice and peace,” he wrote. “May you be blessed with wisdom and grace as you take on your new responsibilities and leadership.”
