An ordained minister of the Gereja Kristen Indonesia-Indonesian Christian Church, and a faculty at the Jakarta Theological Seminary for the last 27 years, Suleeman was a charismatic ecumenical leader, teacher, theologian, and revolutionary servant of God, profoundly compassionate and empathetic to people's needs.
As a member of the WCC Reference Group on Human Sexuality, Rev. Suleeman, since 2014, worked to discern how conversations on matters of human sexuality are being carried out in different contexts in faith communities, and provided guidance on how the conversations can be carried out in the future, emphasising the crucial elements of love and reconciliation.
WCC acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca conveyed his condolences to Suleeman's wife, Dini Kusnadi and two daughters, Hortensia Margarita Esperanza Suleeman (Gita) and Lavender Serena Constanza Suleeman (Reina). “The life and exemplary witness of Rev. Suleeman, his courage, persistence, and loyalty are a great inspiration for generations to come,” said Sauca. “The seeds he has sown have taken root and will continue to give witness to the inclusive love of the Gospel.”
Over and above the numerous articles he has written, Rev. Suleeman translated over 50 theological books from English to Bahasa Indonesia.
