Christusfest (the feast of Christ, in English) marks the kickoff of the one-year countdown before the 11th assembly of the World Council of Churches (WCC), to be held from 31 August to 8 September 2022.

The WCC 11th Assembly theme “Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity” is at the centre of the program that starts with a picnic with discussion groups formed by people from different ages and confessions sharing their experiences on ecumenical engagement.

“We want to encourage the participants to enter into conversation about the biblical texts on the assembly,” said Rev. Dr Marc Witzenbacher, coordinator of the local office of the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe. “For the first time, almost all churches in Karlsruhe will celebrate a service together. The WCC Assembly is already moving and reconciling, bringing the churches here in Karlsruhe closer.”

Christusfest is promoted by the Working Group of Christian Churches in Karlsruhe, the Catholic deanery Karlsruhe, the Forum of Evangelical and Free Churches of Karlsruhe, the Evangelical Church in in Karlsruhe, and the local office of the WCC 11th Assembly.
