The event was held in the "spirit of Assisi,” which is a spirit of dialogue and friendship capable of involving religious leaders, politicians, and ordinary people in the construction of peace at all latitudes.

Religious leaders and representatives of peoples and cultures from all over the world drew together at the La Nuvola Congress Center, and concluded with the Prayer for Peace at the Colosseum.

During the opening, Andrea Riccardi, historical and founder of the Community of SantEgidio, said: "A prophetic imagination is needed. When minds and hearts are opened, avenues are born to answer the cry for peace."

The final ceremony, which was held in the presence of Pope Francis, had each participant in their own place invoke peace according to their different traditions.

Marco Impagliazzo, president of the Community of SantEgidio, said: "The paths to peace are there. It is a matter of glimpsing them, pointing them out, opening them, walking them.”
