Since 2008, the WCC Ecumenical Water Network has invited member churches to use the season of Lent to reflect on God’s gift of water. WCC–through its “Seven Weeks for Water” campaign–has been providing weekly theological reflections and other resources on water during the Lenten period.
According to the Christian tradition, Lent is a time to prepare for the celebration of the death and resurrection of Christ. During this period many people engage in fasting and practice moderation or self-denial in order to focus on repentance and consecrating oneself to God. While water has a strong spiritual significance in the Christian tradition as a gift of God, around the entire globe, human misuse and pollution threaten this essential resource, and billions lack any access to clean water.
The WCC’s Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace this year has a regional focus on the Europe region in 2022. Accordingly, the 2022 Seven Weeks for Water is taking us on a pilgrimage of water justice in Europe.
The seventh and last reflection of the Seven Weeks for Water 2022 will be published 11 April. This webinar will allow member churches and congregations to revisit the Lenten campaign and try to dive deeper with the authors.
Participants will hear a brief summary of the reflections used this year from the authors themselves and engage in a deeper discussion to understand the theological perspective on water justice issues in their own context.
