A new campaign page has been launched for individuals and organizations to support the 2020 Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP), the largest and longest-running research and advocacy initiative on gender equality in the world’s news media.

“In monitoring the representation of women in the news media every five years since 1995, this initiative provides highly-regarded evidence used by media, governments, academics and advocates to address gender equality across sectors,” stated Sara Speicher, deputy general secretary of the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) which coordinates the project. “The initiative is important in tracking and achieving the Sustainable Development Goal for gender equality – but we need more support to make it happen in 2020.”

The campaign offers nine actions to help publicize and support the project, includes social media images for users to download, and has an online crowdfunding capability.

“Gender equality in the media today is an ongoing concern,” said Philip Lee, WACC’s general secretary. “GMMP 2020 is a concrete expression of WACC’s commitment to ending media sexism, but it can only happen with the support of partners worldwide. I wish to urge everyone to donate as much as they can to ensure its success.”
