The service will be led by Bishop Dr Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, chairperson of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany, Bishop Dr Georg Bätzing, chairperson of the German Bishops' Conference, and Archpriest Radu Constantin Miron chairperson of Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Kirchen, as well as representatives of other religions.

“The flood has wiped out human lives and destroyed livelihoods. The many dead, those in mourning and all who now stand in front of the ruins of their existence should not be forgotten. In the service we want to bring them before God and ask him for his support and consolation, stated Bishop Bedford-Strohm and Bishop Bätzing.

“We are overwhelmed by the help and solidarity that citizens in Germany and especially from abroad are showing the people in the flood areas. We want to thank God for that. We chose Aachen because it is centrally located in Europe. We want to remind you that our neighbors in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg were and are affected by the flood disaster,” said Bishop Bätzing and Bishop Bedford-Strohm.

Those affected by the flood disaster, helpers, emergency chaplains as well as the constitutional bodies, representatives of the federal states and representatives of the affected neighboring countries are invited to the service.
