The 29th Conference of Parties (COP29) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, Azerbaijan is a crucial moment for governments to move forward on the implementation of the Paris Agreement, and to urgently address climate change, which is deepening injustices globally.

Some of the key priorities for COP29 include securing robust financial commitments to address all three critical pillars of climate action: adaptation, mitigation, and loss and damage, as well as raising countries’ climate action ambitions.

The dialogue at the gathering will offer an opportunity for faith-oriented and all interested people to gather online and freely share their initiatives, concerns, and hopes.

Talanoa is a Pasifika methodology of resolving issues in communities, and was introduced by the Fijian presidency of COP23.

The gathering will also aim to provide a nourishing and hopeful space for climate justice advocates at the start of COP29, as well as a venue to explore and deepen responses from different angles.

The gathering will also offer an opportunity for participating organizations to endorse an Interfaith Call to Action. This statement, drafted by the Interfaith Liaison Committee to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (co-chaired by the World Council of Churches), expresses concerns, demands, and hopes of faith communities to be delivered to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Executive Secretariat and the COP29 presidency.
