A new Facebook profile frame developed by the World Council of Churches (WCC) is helping people express their support for the upcoming “16 Days against Gender-Based Violence.”

The 16 Days Against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that begins on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on 10 December, Human Rights Day. This year, the WCC is highlighting the links between the household of God, and the fundamental need to make our homes safe and loving spaces.

Under the 16 Days theme, which was launched in 2019, “From Our House to Yours” the staff of the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva will be praying and reflecting each day on the impact of sexual and gender-based violence in our contexts of work and ministry.  Prayers and reflections will be shared on social media.

The WCC invites everyone to pray with together each day and take actions that support women and vulnerable people more at risk of violence in their homes during COVID-19 lockdowns.

To make our solidarity more visible , the new Facebook frame, which highlights the Thursdays in Black campaign for a world free from rape and violence, is available to WCC member churches and to the general public as well.

Adopting the new profile frame, Sara Speicher, WCC communication officer working on Thursdays in Black, said that images, words and actions unite us all in preventing gender-based violence.
